Permanent make-up, also known as PMU or cosmetic pigmentation, involves implanting color pigments into the skin to enhance or correct specific facial features such as eyebrows, eyes, or lip contours.

With permanent make-up, pigments are placed into the upper layers of the skin, whereas traditional tattoos penetrate deeper and are permanent.

In my view, PMU should never fully replace conventional makeup but, if desired, serve as a base that can be enhanced further.

Characteristics of Permanent Make-up

  • Application:
Color pigments are implanted into the uppermost layer of the skin using fine needles.

  • Longevity:
The durability varies but typically lasts between 2 and 4 years before a touch-up is needed.

  • Areas of application:
-- Eyebrows: Enhancing, adding fullness, correcting shape and color.
-- Eyes: Intensifying the eyes, defining the lash line.
-- Lips: Contouring, shading, adding color, correcting asymmetries.

There are also medical–cosmetic PMU treatments such as areola pigmentation, trichopigmentation, vitiligo camouflage, scar correction, and more.

Mouth:
The lip contour, including the lips themselves, can be corrected and repigmented. Missing lip color is supplemented with pigmentation that matches your natural lip tone. All applications are pre-drawn to ensure alignment with your preferences.

Eye Area:
For the eyebrows, individual hairs are simulated through pigmentation. Because this technique follows the natural direction of your eyebrow hair growth, the difference from real hairs is barely noticeable.

For optical lash enhancement, the lash line is pigmented precisely at the base of the lashes, giving the eyes a naturally more expressive look. Another option is the pigmentation of a classic eyeliner.

Additional pigmentation options include:
Nipple-areola reconstruction, cleft palate correction, lip pigmentation after cleft palate surgery, lip pigmentation after burns or accidents, beauty marks, scar camouflage, and tricho pigmentation.

Before every treatment, a detailed information and consultation session is conducted with the client.

If the client decides to proceed with the treatment, a new appointment is scheduled. During this session, the skin is first cleansed and disinfected, photos are taken, and the shape is carefully pre-drawn according to the principles of visagism and the golden ratio. This design is then discussed with the client and approved.

Next, based on the client’s natural features (skin undertone, brow color, hair and eye color), I provide a color recommendation, including an explanation of color theory, and review the options together with the client.

Once everything is agreed upon, the treatment can begin, and the gentle pigmentation process is carried out.

For permanent make-up, pigments are implanted approximately 0.06 to 0.12 mm into the skin using a device and a needle module.

The entire treatment duration (cleansing, pre-drawing, applying soothing ointment, performing the procedure, explaining aftercare instructions, scheduling the perfection appointment, etc.) takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. After the treatment, soothing skin compresses are applied and the client is cared for so that she can, of course, go out in public or return to work immediately.

Depending on the client’s skin type, skin condition, and personal habits, permanent make-up (PMU) typically lasts between 2 and 4 years. With the skin’s natural renewal cycle, the pigmentation gradually fades each month, which is completely normal. The PMU can be refreshed or repigmented at any time upon the client’s request. This is offered under special conditions and always includes a perfection appointment. A PMU treatment is never perfect after just one session.

The pigmentation colors are produced exclusively from registered and approved raw materials with certified purity. They fully comply with cosmetic regulations. Only high‑quality pigments ensure pigmentation at the highest level. The pigments used in my practice are regularly inspected by the Food Safety Authority (Office for Consumer Protection). The certification can be viewed upon request.

Some clients feel nothing at all, while others experience a slight tingling sensation. In any case, it is very well tolerable.

It always depends entirely on what the client wants and what her individual starting situation is. Treating clients with alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) or those who have undergone chemotherapy cannot be compared to treating a client who naturally has good or very good eyebrows.

This is just one small example.

For 24 years, I have offered my clients the same pricing structure. These prices always include the initial treatment as well as the follow-up session, also referred to as the perfection appointment. A consultation and information session is charged at CHF 90.–. This amount will be credited toward the treatment cost should the client decide to proceed.

All prices are final prices, meaning VAT and the perfection appointment are included (VAT No. CHE-226.713.700).

Eyebrows: CHF 900.– or CHF 1000.– or CHF 1100.– including perfection/touch-up after a minimum of 5–6 weeks
Upper eyeliner: CHF 700.– including perfection/touch-up after a minimum of 5–6 weeks
Lower eyeliner: CHF 600.– including perfection/touch-up after a minimum of 5–6 weeks
Lip contour including shading: CHF 1500.– including perfection/touch-up after a minimum of 5–6 weeks

The refresh prices, including the perfection appointment, range from 50% to 70% of the original price, depending on the time interval since the last treatment. A detailed explanation can be found under the section “Terms & Conditions”.

My goal is for the client to be completely satisfied and for me to stand behind my work 100%.

Satisfaction and a commitment to perfection are central to my philosophy. Only satisfied clients remain clients.

Only candidates who successfully pass the Swiss association examination in both theory and practice under medical supervision receive the quality label and are authorized to use the professional title “Dipl. Derma-Pigmentologist,” representing the highest level of certification in the field of permanent make-up (PMU).

Q-Label - High Level Quality Control:

“Choose wisely whom you commit to forever!”
Even though permanent make-up does not last forever, it is extremely important to thoroughly inform yourself beforehand and to know exactly whom you are entrusting with this significant step.

The long-lasting nature of the treatment and the fact that work is performed directly in the skin show that such procedures can, in the worst case, involve risks. Severe distortions, infections, or injuries can result from improperly performed work and may cause lasting harm to those affected.

For this reason, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) has issued new regulations for this field. The Swiss Association for Cosmetics (SFK), together with representatives of the Swiss Association for Permanent Make-up (SFP), developed comprehensive training requirements that reflect the responsibility of this profession and defined the admission criteria for the Permanent Make-up specialist section.

This training can be completed with a professional examination, which only successful candidates may pass, granting them the protected title “Dipl. Derma-Pigmentologist.” It represents the highest quality certification in the field of permanent make-up. I myself have held this title since 2002 as a certified Dipl. Derma-Pigmentologist SFP.

In addition, I served for several years as Vice President and examination expert for the Swiss Association for Permanent Make-up.

Hygiene Certification:

The hygiene certification (in effect since 2007) is a certification based on the guidelines of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and fully complies with the requirements for good practice in the fields of tattooing, permanent make-up, piercing, and related procedures. These standards are recognized and required by the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) as well as various professional associations.

The inspection and certification of my studio are carried out by the Cantonal Chemist of the Canton of Zug.
